Prasar Bharati Secretariat

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 33 read with sub-section (1) of the Section 8 of the PB Act, 1990 (25 of 1990), Prasar Bharati made its regulations called “Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Regulations, 2000, which empowers the Chief Executive Officer (Executive Member) to conduct business of the Prasar Bharati Board.

Keeping in view and the expansion of scope of work in volumes and to protect the interests and service matters of its employees, it became essential to expand the Prasar Bharati headquarters with its minimal and absolutely essential staff and experts to advise the Executive Member and the Prasar Bharati Board, Prasar Bharati Secretariat was established and became fully functional in the year 2001 for assisting Prasar Bharati Board and its various committees in discharge of their functions.

Prasar Bharati Secretariat, which houses Chairman, Member (Finance), Member (Personnel) besides Executive Member (Chief Executive Member) is mainly responsible for planning, organizing, marketing, broadcast, TRP, Sales, Viewership, economy measures, etc and execution of decisions taken by Prasar Bharati Board, coordination of the activities of two media units as also to lend support to the ongoing and future activities in management of AIR stations and Doordarshan kendras.

The Prasar Bharati Secretariat comprises various Divisions, namely, Establishment, Administration, General Administration, Legal, Vigilance, PBRB Cell, Programme & Operations, Technical and newly created IT Division. Besides, there is also a Finance Wing which has varied functions such as Finance, Budget, Accounts and Audit, Taxation, Tariff & Costing etc. Prasar Bharati Secretariat interacts with the Central Government, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in all matters relating to the functioning of All India Radio and Doordarshan as also framing of rules and regulations, etc. It acts as a vital bridge between the two media units to bring in synergy between their functioning thereby improving the efficiency and lowering of costs.
